EUREKA!! GOLD! GOLD! GOLD!
Monday 26th of August 1851
Dear Mother and Father,
How are you? Are you well? And how are pops and grandma? Myself and William are keeping well. Our journey to Australia was long and tiresome but, we have arrived safely and have found a place to call home at last.
I write to you with such good news! We are in such high spirits! Upon our arrival in Melbourne, we heard whispers of a discovery of gold near a place called Bathurst in New South Wales. Since this initial news, there has been rumours circulating that more discoveries have been made here in the new colony of Victoria! We have also heard the size and quality of gold that has been found here is similar to that of the gold found in California, which tells us great fortune is ours for the taking!
William and I plan to move further inland than we had expected to join in the search for gold in the hopes that we strike it rich! There is mass hysteria here in Melbourne currently, as many people are preparing to make their way to places such a Ballarat and Bendigo in hopes to find gold also. We ask that you and the family consider making the journey to Australia, to join us in our search for gold.
We both hope that this letter finds you well,
Michael and William

You are taking on the role of a historian, and this particular letter you have stumbled across leads you to want to research into the Australian gold rush of the 1800s.
You want to explore the lives of the people involved, including those who already lived in Australia, the immigrants, the miners, the women and children, the Indigenous Australians and the police and gold commissioners. You are also interested in how events such as the gold rush and the Eureka Stockade influenced Australia as we know it today.
